Injury delays Pietersen return

Kevin Pietersen will miss Surrey's T20 Blast fixture with Middlesex on Friday because of a finger injury.

The 33-year-old had been due to feature in the game at the Oval after completing his IPL duties with Delhi, but is now expected to make his first domestic appearance of the season against Essex in a weeks' time.

That will represent his first game on these shores since the termination of his central contract and the end of his England career.

A statement on the Surrey website said: "Kevin Pietersen is unavailable for the game (against Middlesex) due to ongoing problems with the finger injury which hampered him throughout the IPL.

"After seeing a hand specialist today Kevin has been told he does not need surgery but will require five days of intensive physiotherapy.

"Pietersen will be available to play against Essex in the NatWest T20 Blast at the Kia Oval on Friday June 6 and for the remainder of the competition."

Pietersen also confirmed his Surrey seasonal debut was likely to come next week.

He said: "Frustrating having to miss tomorrow night for @surreycricket, but all being well, my debut for summer '14 will be next week!"
