Ipswich to ease McGoldrick back

Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy insists striker David McGoldrick will not be rushed back after he played his first match in five months following an injury lay-off.

The former Nottingham Forest front-man was ruled out of the final two months of last season with a knee injury, but made his return as a substitute in Tuesday's pre-season friendly win at Southend.

"It was great to see 'Didz' back in action and he has done remarkably well because he has only trained three or four times with the group," McCarthy told the official club website.

"We're obviously delighted he is back but he has a way to go yet. We won't be setting any date on him being ready. He will be ready when he is ready."
