Isner defends Atlanta title

Top seed John Isner successfully defended his Atlanta Open title with a 6-3 6-4 victory over Israel's Dudi Sela in Sunday's final.

Isner's superb serve played a predictably central role in his victory, with the American firing 15 aces - including three in a row to clinch the title - and winning 84% of the points off his first serve.

The 29-year-old was in clinical form, converting both of the two break points he created and fending off the only one he faced on his own serve as he sealed his ninth ATP singles title.

For Sela - more than a foot shorter than the 6ft 10in Isner - it was a second defeat in an ATP final, coming six years after he lost to Andy Roddick in Beijing.
