Ivanovic heading to Birmingham

Ana Ivanovic has singed up to play in June's Aegon Classic at the Edgbaston Priory Club in Birmingham.

The former world number one, who won the French Open in 2008, will compete at what is one of the key warm-up tournaments for Wimbledon.

Ivanovic said: "Returning to Birmingham for the Aegon Classic is very exciting for me.

"The tournament has a very intimate setting giving the perfect introduction to the grasscourt season. I'm looking forward getting out on the grass back in Birmingham this June."

She joins last year's Wimbledon runner-up Sabine Lisicki in the field for the WTA tournament which takes place from June 9-15.

The final day will feature a charity exhibition doubles match, part of the 'Rally For Bally', a series of matches taking place that day which will raise money for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and the Elena Baltacha Academy of Tennis.

Former British number one Baltacha was recently diagnosed with liver cancer.

The match will feature the legendary Martina Navratilova, herself a former champion at the tournament, former British number ones Tim Henman and Anne Keothavong and the 2007 Wimbledon mixed doubles champion Jamie Murray.
