Jacob third on Fontwell return

Daryl Jacob had to settle for third place on his comeback ride at Fontwell after five months on the sidelines.

Jacob attempted to make all on Norfolk Sky in the Sara Tiara Hat Company Novices' Hurdle, but Tony McCoy never let him out of his sight on My Direction.

The 19-times champion took a narrow lead at the third last and hard though Jacob tried to keep tabs on the new leader, it soon became a lost cause.

My Direction (5/6 favourite) quickly went clear and could afford an untidy jump at the final flight as the John Ferguson-trained four-year-old swept home by 11 lengths to give McCoy his 91st win of the season.

Uriah Heep stuck on for second and finished 11 lengths ahead of Norfolk Sky, who was Jacob's only booked ride of the evening fixture.

Jacob was returning to action after suffering a broken leg, knee and elbow after a freak fall from Port Melon on the way to the start for the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March.
