Janmaat: I'll be ready

Newcastle's Daryl Janmaat insists there are no worries about his fitness, with the new season less than two weeks away.

Janmaat, who joined the Magpies this summer from Feyenoord, has missed a chunk of pre-season due to his involvement with Holland at the World Cup finals.

But the 25-year-old - who looks set to be Newcastle's first-choice right-back this season, replacing Mathieu Debuchy - has calmed any fears that he might not be ready for their opener at home to champions Manchester City on Sunday, August 17.

"I feel fit but I have trained only three times," said Janmaat, who is hoping to play a big part in the friendly against Real Sociedad on Sunday.

"So it's good to get my minutes now. On Sunday, I can play more."

Whilst Janmaat should be fit for City, there is a real worry over Cheick Tiote. The Ivory Coast midfielder has a hamstring injury, which could rule him out.
