Johnson flying high in Haikou

England's Trish Johnson remains in touch with the top of the leaderboard following the second round of the World Ladies Championship in Haikou.

The 48-year-old from Bristol hit a five-under-par 68 to add to her opening 69 to sit just two shots off the lead in a five-way share of second.

Leading at the halfway stage is defending champion Suzann Pettersen after her second-round 68 took her to 11-under-par overall at the Mission Hills resort's Blackstone course.

The Norwegian, who held the lead after Thursday's opening day, hit five birdies in a flawless round as she remained in contention for her 22nd career title.

Alongside Johnson in the tie for second is South Korea's Ryu So Yeon, her compatriot Chung Ye-na, Nikki Campbell of Australia and Frenchwoman Valentine Derrey.

Yeon carded 67 following a round which included eagles on the sixth and 16th holes to move up the leaderboard.

In a surprise move one shot further back was Diana Luna of Italy, who suffered a disappointing first-round score of 74, before completing Friday's round with eagles on the second and 16th holes for an impressive 64 score - the best of the day.
