Manchester United defender Phil Jones is one of four players to have pulled out of the England Under-21 squad for Tuesday's match with Sweden.
The 20-year-old was named in Stuart Pearce's side on Thursday, much to the surprise of United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, but the Football Association confirmed his withdrawal on Sunday because of fitness concerns.
Jones was absent for United's 1-0 Barclays Premier League win at Fulham on Saturday.
Liverpool midfielder Raheem Sterling has also pulled out of the friendly in Walsall, along with Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne and Norwich full-back Ryan Bennett.
All four players are missing through "a mixture of injury and illness", the FA said in a statement.
