Jones: Owls are ready

Dave Jones says Sheffield Wednesday are "ready to go" with just under two weeks left before the start of the new Championship campaign.

The Owls gained a 1-1 friendly draw with West Brom at Hillsborough on Saturday and Jones is now counting down the days to the season.

"It was a good workout for us and I think anyone who saw that game can see that we are ready to go," he told the club's official website.

"I have nothing but admiration for the players because they have worked so hard in pre-season and you saw that against West Brom. There were some excellent performances out there, we looked very assured on the ball and we moved the ball well."

The only real downside was a groin injury to Chris Lines in the second half. The playmaker was carried off on a stretcher in some discomfort and Jones said: "He just popped a groin so we will have him scanned and take it from there."
