Jonny shoots for Gold glory

Tom Dascombe is unsure what to expect from talented sprinter Jonny Mudball as he goes for glory in Saturday's William Hill Ayr Gold Cup.

The six-year-old appears to have a decent chance of making his presence felt on the book, having finished fifth when sent off favourite two years ago and he is now six pounds lower in the weights.

However, he ran just twice in 2011 and while he made a winning start to this season at Nottingham, his last two runs have been less inspiring.

"He runs and he is lower in the weights than he once was, but that is because he has not been running so well," said Dascombe.

"He did win at Nottingham a couple of runs ago and then we gave him a pipe-opener at Bath last time, where he ran OK.

"He has won on all sorts of ground and if he can come back to his best, then off his current rating, he would have to go there with a good chance.

"We'll give it a shot and see what happens."
