Juninho claims Lyon approach

Former Lyon star Juninho has claimed he has been approached to become the French club's new coach.

Lyon are looking for a new manager following the departure of Remi Garde after three years in charge at Stade Gerland.

Juninho, who retired from playing earlier this year, spent eight years at Lyon before leaving in 2009 and the 39-year-old claims the club's president Jean-Michel Aulas has approached him about becoming their new manager.

"Mr Aulas said, 'You are one of three or four names we are thinking about. We will come back in a week or 10 days to discuss again'," Juninho told RMC.

"I was not expecting that call from the president.

"I have never hidden the fact that I want to continue in football as a coach. I think I could do it. I need time to think. We will talk again next week."
