Patrick Kane scored the only goal in the shootout to give the Chicago Blackhawks a 2-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings.
Tomas Tatar put the Red Wings ahead in the third, leaving the Blackhawks on the brink of their first defeat in regulation this season, but once again they found a way, Kane scoring a power play goal to extended their point-scoring streak at the start of the season to 22 games.
Kane then came good in the shootout as well, while Corey Crawford kept the Red Wings out.
David Desharnais scored twice as the Montreal Canadiens came from behind to edge out the Boston Bruins 4-3.
Tomas Plekanec and Max Pacioretty also scored for the Canadiens, while Tyler Seguin, Patrice Bergeron and Dougie Hamilton tallied for Boston.
Artem Anisimov scored an overtime winner to lift the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 2-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche.
The New York Rangers beat the Buffalo Sabres 3-2 following a shootout, the Minnesota Wild were 4-2 winners over the Edmonton Oilers and the Calgary Flames saw off the Vancouver Canucks 4-2.
The Carolina Hurricanes beat the Florida Panthers for the second night running, winning 3-2, The Dallas Stars overcame the St Louis Blues 4-1 and the New York Islanders edged out the Ottawa Senators 3-2 following a shootout.
