Karakontie lifts the Lagadere
Karakontie dug deep to see off Spanish raider Noozhoh Canarias in the Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp.
Christophe Soumillon was positive from the off aboard Noozhoh Canarias, setting a good clip in front while Stephane Pasquier was content to sit in behind and get some cover as one or two of the field raced keenly.
Noozhoh Canarias was one of those to take an early hold but Soumillon anchored him in front and he still looked full of running at the head of the straight.
The Jonathan Pease-trained Karakontie was primed to challenge in behind though and when Charm Spirit made his move down the outside, Pasquier also kicked with his mount assuming the lead.
He appeared to get a touch close to Noozhoh Canarias just short of the line with Soumillon snatching up but the better horse emerged victorious.
The Richard Hannon-trained Barley Mow was barely sighted in the seven-furlong heat and finished out of the frame.
