Karlovic eases past Ginepri

Second seed Ivo Karlovic is safely through to round two of the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships in Rhode Island after a 7-6 (7-2) 6-2 victory over Robby Ginepri.

The 35-year-old Croatian saw off American veteran Ginepri in just over an hour to set up a clash with the winner of Tuesday's match between Sergiy Stakhovsky and Farrukh Dustov.

Elsewhere in the first round at the grass-court tournament, sixth-seeded American Steve Johnson made it through with a comfortable 6-1 6-2 victory over compatriot Clay Thompson and next faces Tatsuma Ito, who defeated Mitchell Krueger 7-6 (9-7) 6-1.

Dudi Sela was a 6-1 7-6 (7-2) victor over Michal Przysiezny, while Malek Jaziri advanced following a 7-5 6-3 win against Ricardas Berankis.

Former champion Rajeev Ram advanced thanks to a 6-2 7-5 victory over Australia's Matthew Ebden.

Top seed and home favourite John Isner, who won the event in 2011 and 2012, defending champion Nicolas Mahut of France and former world No 1 Lleyton Hewitt are all in action on Tuesday.
