Venetia Williams reports Katenko to be making good progress after having to undergo an emergency colic operation on Friday evening.
Hugely impressive handicap victories at Sandown and Cheltenham had connections dreaming of Cheltenham Gold Cup glory, but a fortnight before the blue riband, the seven-year-old has been struck down by illness.
The French import will miss the rest of the season and his trainer is praying her stable star makes a full recovery.
Williams said: "Everything is going as well as we could have hoped at this stage, it's all good news so far, but we're not out of the woods yet.
"His survival is obviously uppermost in our minds. At the moment it's looking good, but we just have to take things day by day.
"Each day that he gets behind him without taking a step backwards is good. That's what we want to see."
