Kayf Moss shows Spirit at Fontwell

Kayf Moss held on in a thriller from Meister Eckhart to land the National Spirit Hurdle at Fontwell with Saphir Du Rheu unplaced.

John Flint's charge was completing a hat-trick following wins at Leicester and Ffos Las but he had plenty to find with the market principals on all known form and was sent off fourth in the betting at 16/1 in a field of six.

Rhys Flint was determined to make all and he established a comfortable lead aboard the six-year-old with Daryl Jacob happy to sit just off the pace on Saphir Du Rheu.

The race developed at the start of the final circuit when Kayf Moss, Saphir Du Rheu, Meister Eckhart and Chris Pea Green pulled away from the two outsiders.

Saphir Du Rheu, the 2/5 favourite, looked to be travelling comfortably, but when Jacob asked him for an effort a quarter of a mile from home he didn't get the response he was looking for.

Kayf Moss was proving a formidable rival to pass, and as Saphir Du Rheu's challenge weakened it was left to Meister Eckhart and Chris Pea Green to apply the pressure.

However, the leader held on gamely at the line. Meister Eckhart was slightly squeezed for room by Chris Pea Green in the closing stages, but Kayf Moss had enough left in the tank to hold on by a head.
