Keane error costs Wexford win

Unrequited was disqualified following his victory in the Children's Day At Bettyville Handicap at Wexford after jockey Colin Keane failed to weigh in.

The Ger Lyons-trained runner saw off Coolfighter by two lengths in the one-mile-three-furlong handicap after keeping on well in the closing stages.

However, Keane did not weigh in afterwards, prompting the stewards to disqualify Unrequited (13-2) and award the race to the Noel Dooly-trained Coolfighter (13-2), who was bringing up a hat-trick in the hands of Seamie Heffernan.

Ring Chief was promoted to second and The Fox Tully awarded third

Lyons' assistant and brother Shane said: "If that's the worst thing that ever happens to him he won't be too bad. He is very upset about it, but we are behind him 100 per cent."
