Second seed Maria Kirilenko moved into the semi-finals of the Pattaya Open with a 7-6 6-3 victory over Elena Vesnina.
The Russian is looking to go one better than last year when she lost to Ana Ivanovic in the final.
Kirilenko edged the first set 8-6 in the tie-breaker and her seventh-ranked compatriot was unable to find a way back.
She will next play Sorana Cirstea of Romania after the fourth seed overcame Latvian Anastasija Sevastova 6-3 6-0.
Another Russian, Nina Bratchikova, ended Ayumi Morita's run in the tournament with a 6-1 3-6 6-1 victory. Morita had knocked out defending champion Ivanovic in the first round.
Bratchikova will face fifth-seeded Sabine Lisicki, who dropped the first set against Marina Erakovic of New Zealand before winning 5-7 6-3 6-2.
