Knight Riders hopes washed away

The Kolkata Knight Riders have been eliminated from the Champions League T20 after their Group A clash with the Perth Scorchers was abandoned.

Kolkata, the IPL champions, needed a victory to stay alive but the weather denied them even a fighting chance as the match was called off after 14 overs.

Perth reached 91 for two before the rains - briefly terrential and with plenty of lightning around too - came and ultimately claimed the fixture.

Kolkata enjoyed an early breakthrough, Brett Lee removing Herschelle Gibbs for a duck, but Shaun Marsh hit 38 from 40 balls and Simon Katich was unbeaten on 43 off 32 as Perth suggested they could have compiled a decent score.
