Kopczak named in Giants line-up

Huddersfield will give a run-out to high-profile signing Craig Kopczak in Friday's pre-season friendly against St Helens at Langtree Park.

The Wales captain, who has joined the Giants from Bradford, is named in coach Paul Anderson's starting line-up, with fellow newcomers Ben Blackmore and Anthony Mullally among an 11-strong bench.

Second rower Brett Ferres is serving a one-match ban for a dangerous tackle in Huddersfield's play-off defeat at Hull last September and Anderson is keeping back six senior players for the club's final trial against Widnes on Sunday, January 20.

Anderson will take a look at a crop of promising youngsters, including scrum-half Jack Miller, son of Doncaster coach Tony Miller.

St Helens' former Huddersfield boss Nathan Brown will give run-outs to close-season signings Willie Manu, Jordan Turner and Alex Walmsley.

Brown is especially keen to test out the 6ft 5in, 17st Walmsley, who has caught his eye in training after being snapped up from part-timers Batley in the winter.

"Not only the coaches, the players are excited to watch him go," Brown said.

"His pre-season has been very good. Now you want to see him on the field and see what he does at Super League level where the pace steps up."

The two clubs meet in the opening round of Super League VXIII at Langtree Park on Saturday, February 2.
