Krul targets Tottenham win

Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul has urged his team-mates to bounce back from their defeat to Sunderland by getting the better of Tottenham Hotspur.

Alan Pardew's side lost their third successive Tyne-Wear derby 3-0 and succumbed to a defeat to Chelsea in the following Premier League game on Saturday by a similar margin.

The Magpies will host Spurs at St James' Park on Wednesday, and Krul wants his side to return to winning ways as they look to halt their slide down the Premier League.

"It's the game everybody should be up for," the 25-year-old told The Chronicle.

"Unfortunately, we didn't do that whatsoever. But we need a response, and I think what better than a game against Spurs at home to show the fans that the first half of the season wasn't a fluke.

"We are four points off Manchester United. We shouldn't forget that.

"I know it is doom and gloom in the last few weeks but we've had a great start to the season and we just need to kick-start it again.

"We don't need any motivation for that. We are eighth at the moment and we want to finish as high as possible."
