Kuchar shines in RBC Heritage

Matt Kuchar brought his form from last week's Masters into the RBC Heritage at Hilton Head after opening with a five-under-par 66.

The American, who finished in a tie for fifth at the first major of the year, was in fine fettle in South Carolina on Thursday, carding a bogey-free round.

Starting on the back nine, the 35-year-old birdied the 13th, 15th, second, fifth, and ninth holes to sit alongside compatriots Scott Langley and William McGirt at the top of the leaderboard.

Langley and McGirt each entered the turn on five under but neither could advance their score on the back nine.

Harris English made five birdies and two bogeys in his 68, while another man to impress at Augusta last week, Jordan Spieth, was among a cluster of players on two under.

Spieth finished joint runner-up in the Masters, three shots behind champion Bubba Watson, but has given himself hope of a decent finish this week.

Scotland's Russell Knox is the highest-placed Briton, sitting alongside Spieth after an opening 69, while England's Luke Donald is a shot further back.

Defending champion Graeme McDowell and Scot Stephen Gallacher are on level par although English duo Paul Casey and Nick Faldo will face a battle to be involved this weekend as they are three-and six-over respectively.
