Ladies ready for Summer repeat

A bid for a third victory in York's Summer Stakes on July 11 is top priority for Geoff Oldroyd's classy sprinting mare Ladies Are Forever.

After looking very unlucky behind Stepper Point in a Listed event at Lingfield last month, Oldroyd took his six-year-old on a long journey from Malton down to Bath last Saturday night for the Lansdown Fillies' Stakes.

Down to the minimum trip, Ladies Are Forever won cosily as a 7/4 favourite.

"She came back great and I think she has probably come back a better filly than she was last year," Oldroyd said.

"I'd have been amazed if she hadn't won, as it was probably the weakest race she had run in."

"She's in the Duke of York Stakes (May 14), and we'll see what happens. Six furlongs is her trip and she's a different filly on fast ground.

"The main thing would be the Summer Stakes, which she has won twice, and didn't run in it once in between.

"This could be her year. It is probably her last season and hopefully it will be a good one."
