Laird happy with Rovers move

Tranmere new-boy Marc Laird is pleased to have signed a one-year deal and wants to repay the faith shown in him by boss Rob Edwards.

Laird was a free agent after leaving Southend at the end of last season and has been training with Rovers for the past week.

He told the club's official website: "I'm delighted (to have signed). I've been here training since last Thursday and I've enjoyed it.

"The lads have all made me feel really welcome and I'm glad I've joined."

Following relegation to League Two last season, Edwards was appointed as Tranmere's new manager and has brought in a number of new recruits.

Laird added: "The club is a massive club in this division and the manager really spoke to me about the way he wants to play football because it suits my game.

"You've got to aim high. We want to get Tranmere back into the league above and push on from there.

"There are some big clubs in the league, but this is a massive club as well.

"We'll make sure we're ready to go at the start of the season.

"It's the manager's first job and we all want to do well for him. I want to do well for him because he's shown faith in me."
