Lambert dismisses Lowton rift

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has insisted that there is no problem between him and defender Matt Lowton.

The 24-year-old was dropped from the Villans squad for their Premier League match against Liverpool at Anfield last month for turning up late to training.

Lowton was also kept out of the Villa team that drew 0-0 with Cardiff City in Wales on February 11.

There have been suggestions that the duo have fallen out with each other, but Lambert claims that the right-back remains in his plans for the rest of the season.

"I just left him out (against Cardiff)," the Villa boss told reporters. "I had to pick a team that I thought was right.

"He's been fine and I don't want people writing I've fallen out with him, because that's nonsense. There's no such thing."

Aston Villa return to action on Sunday when they travel north to face Newcastle at St James' Park.
