Lambert hails Vlaar form

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has hailed captain Ron Vlaar, saying he has been delighted with the defender's form.

The Netherlands international has been ever-present for Villa this term, leading his side to 11th in the table after a positive start to the season.

Lambert is now hoping that the 28-year-old can continue his impressive displays as he looks to earn a place in the Dutch World Cup squad.

"I think with Ron, it's down to more experience and being used to the level," he told Villa's official website.

"When you look at Ron, he's playing with a terrific national team. If you can hold your own in that side, then I wouldn't think anything else other than he can play the game.

"Getting a year under his belt has helped him, no two ways about it. I think he's having a good season for us.

"He's doing really well and he's having a good season for us.

"He's a nice lad - quiet - and a nice character to work with.

"He doesn't chastise people or go ballistic or anything like that. It's just how you want to be, it's his character.

"I think the World Cup will be pushing him and I think it should do. The World Cup should enhance any player.

"If you've got a chance to go to a World Cup, then you do your utmost to go and grab it because it might never come round again.

"Ron is 28. You don't know if this will be the last one you have a chance to go to. It's a great thing to try and get to."
