Laws praises Iron triumph
Boss Brian Laws felt the magnitude of Scunthorpe's 2-1 victory over Crawley could not be underestimated.
The Iron boosted their hopes of npower League One survival by coming from behind to record back-to-back home wins for the first time for almost three years.
"I feel so sorry for the fans that it has taken so long for this club to string together two successive home wins again," said Laws. "It just shows the magnitude of this result for us."
Former Scunthorpe favourite Matt Sparrow threatened to return to haunt his old club when he fired Crawley in front in the 48th minute. But the hosts came roaring back with goals from Jimmy Ryan and centre-back Niall Canavan to snatch a 2-1 victory.
On the back of a similar result in midweek against Portsmouth, that keeps Scunthorpe just above the bottom four.
"I am delighted for the players because they got their reward for the endeavour they put in," said Laws. "They have scrapped it out against a good Crawley side who have invested well during January."
One of the players Crawley brought in was midfield man Sparrow from Brighton, who Laws gave a league debut to at Glanford Park back in 1999. And he is still a big fan of the 33-year-old, who he tried hard to bring back to the club.
"Yes, it's well known that I tried to bring Matty back here to help us. But he got a better offer financially from Crawley, it's as simple as that," said Laws.
"It was sod's law that he would either score or make a goal against us and I have total respect for him that he did not celebrate his goal.
"We could have been in front at half-time and Matt's goal came at a bad time for us. But I was delighted with the response that I got from my players. They have a belief in themselves that they can win games now."
