Leigh edge past Halifax in cup
Leigh are through to the last eight of the Challenge Cup after gaining a dramatic 19-18 win in extra time over Halifax at Leigh Sports Village.
Championship rivals Halifax, beaten at home by the Centurions earlier this month, led 16-6 at half-time after scoring tries through Anthony Thackray, Rob Worrincy and Lee Paterson, with John Duffy replying for the home side.
Leigh edged in front with the aid of tries from Tommy Goulden and James Laithwaite, with Martyn Ridyard adding a third goal, before a Paul Handforth penalty a minute before the end of normal time tied the scores.
That sent the tie into extra time and Ridyard settled it with a drop goal seven minutes later.
