Midfielder Leon Osman admits that Everton's excellent start to the season has probably helped him earn his first call up to the England squad.
The 31-year-old could collect his first cap against Sweden on Wednesday and Osman believes his club's current form has helped in his selection.
Osman said: "The good form I've shown for Everton has been recognised. I am feeling good at the minute.
"We're playing the best football we've played as a club for a good number of years.
"To find ourselves fourth in the league is brilliant and this has probably played a big part."
Osman said he had never given up hope of being part of an England squad, adding that he has always been a late developer.
He went on: "It's strange but I'm enjoying it. I've developed late. I only became a first team regular at 23.
"I've done everything late so it doesn't surprise me."
