Li through to the last eight
Li Na snapped her four-match losing streak against former world No 1 Jelena Jankovic by registering a 6-3 6-0 win to reach the US Open quarter-final.
The fifth seed recorded 20 winners and took all seven of her break point chances during the 57-minute demolition.
And Li says her coach Carlos Rodriguez told her to use the pain from her defeat to Jankovic in Rome as motivation.
"The last time in Rome I lost in two sets straight away," said Li.
"She plays pretty good defense, but who knows, maybe I played the best match of my whole life.
"I still remember last time I played her in Rome. I was feeling I played pretty good, but still lost the match, so I was so sad after the match.
"Before this match, Carlos didn't tell me anything. Just said, 'remember how you felt after that match'."
Li will now take on Ekaterina Makarova after the 24th seed stunned third ranked Agnieszka Radwanska 6-4 6-4.
Makarova hit 28 winners as she ended Radwanska's hopes of becoming the only woman to reach the quarter-finals in all four of this year's grand slams.
