Llodra cruises past Tipsarevic
Janko Tipsarevic was dumped out of the ATP Open Sud de France by Michael Llodra on Thursday.
Tipsarevic, the second-seeded world number nine from Serbia, given a first-round bye, was no match for Llodra in his first outing at the hardcourt event in Montpellier as the world number 62 triumphed 6-3 7-6 (7/4).
Llodra will next face unseeded Czech Jan Hajek, who was leading Viktor Troicki 6-0 4-2 when the seventh-seeded Serbian retired with a hamstring injury.
Third seed Richard Gasquet battled from a set down to defeat fellow Frenchman Gael Monfils 6-3 2-6 6-3 and will face sixth-seeded compatriot Julien Benneteau in the quarter-finals.
Wild card Benneteau toppled Romania's Victor Hanescu 6-4 6-4, while another Frenchman, fourth seed Gilles Simon, was a 7-6 (7/5) 6-2 winner against Spain's Arnau Brugues-Davi.
Ukraine's Sergiy Stakhovsky beat Japan's Tatsuma Ito 6-7 (4/7) 6-4 7-6 (7/3) to set up a last-eight meeting with Finland's Jarkko Nieminen.
