Long Beach decision delayed

A decision on whether Formula One could be in the running to return to Long Beach has been delayed.

The southern Californian resort staged the last of seven grands prix in 1983, following which CART and IndyCar took to its streets.

With the lease for an event up for renewal following next season's IndyCar race, F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone contacted mayor Bob Foster late last year to pitch the sport's hat into the ring.

Following a meeting of Long Beach city council officials on Tuesday, it is understood no decision was reached on whether to put the contract out to tender.

The belief is more information is required from all sides before it will be addressed again at another council meeting in the future.
