Long excited by partnership

Shane Long is hopeful that his partnership with Nikica Jelavic will continue to flourish at Hull City after an encouraging display in the 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.

Both players joined Hull in January and Long is thrilled to finally be at the club, having first been targeted by Steve Bruce in the summer before a deal broke down.

Long scored on his home debut against Spurs and Jelavic played well alongside him in attack, even if it was not enough to secure victory due to Paulinho's equaliser.

The Irishman is confident the draw with Tottenham will kick off a successful end to the season, and expects his link-up with Jelavic to be an important factor.

"I enjoy playing up front with him, he's a handful," Long told Sky Sports.

"He's got a lot of attributes and was unlucky with one or two chances today, but I'm looking forward to the partnership we can have.

"They showed a lot of faith in my ability, following up what happened in the summer, and I know the gaffer wants me to play like I can.

"Hopefully we can bring something to the squad, get a few more goals and the quicker we get to 40 points and safe the better.

"I think our team is definitely good enough to be here next season and hopefully we can start looking up rather than down."
