Lopez delighted by Chievo move
Maxi Lopez has revealed he turned down offers from other clubs to join Chievo from Catania.
Lopez, who had one year remaining on his contract with the relegated Sicilian club, will now play his football in Verona during the 2014-15 Serie A campaign.
The 30-year-old has an option to extend his stay for a further year if the Flying Donkeys defend their top-flight status.
"They really wanted me and I immediately understood that this would be an important opportunity for me," Lopez told his new club's official website. "I have the same grit as Chievo.
"I had other offers but Chievo was a life choice, one that also took my family into consideration.
"It's important to play for a team in which I can show what I can do.
"This is perhaps the best choice for me and the encouraging words from coach Eugenio Corini give me great motivation to do well.
"Now I have to do a good job on the pitch in order to repay the trust the club and the coach have placed in me."
The former Barcelona star spent the second half of last season on loan at Sampdoria and scored one goal in 12 league appearances.
Chievo finished 16th in the Serie A table in 2013-14, only four points clear of the relegation zone.
