Low teases Meyer selection

Schalke's 18-year-old midfielder Max Meyer could be a surprise member of Germany's World Cup squad, coach Joachim Low has hinted.

Die Mannschaft coach Joachim Low will announce his provisional squad for Brazil on Thursday and, given his remarks in the Bild newspaper, Meyer would be well-advised not to book a holiday this summer.

"I've liked Max Meyer for many weeks now," Low said. "He's technically very strong, has no hang-ups and he's going to go a long way.

"I'm keeping an eye on several Schalke players."

Julian Draxler is expected to be named in Low's squad, while Leon Goretzka could make it a trio of Royal Blue midfielders in the Germany set-up if selected.

"He's a player with extraordinary talent," added Low. "He's still young, but he's already played in many positions."

Meyer has represented Germany at Under-19 level while Goretzka has already appeared three times for the Under-21s.
