Ludogorets punished for racism

Ludogorets Razgrad will have part of their stadium closed for the Champions League game against Real Madrid due to fans' racist behaviour.

UEFA have imposed sanctions on Ludogorets and Steaua Bucharest after incidents in last week's play-off.

Steaua must play a Europa League match, against Aalborg on September 18, in an empty stadium.

Bulgarian side Ludogorets host Madrid on October 1 in a fixture that has been moved to the National Stadium in Sofia as their own ground does not meet UEFA standards.

The governing body have also fined Ludogorets €16,000 for fans invading the field and the team receiving at least five yellow cards.

Steaua were fined €64,500 for the racism and other offences.

"All forms of racist behaviour are considered serious offences against the disciplinary regulations and are punished with the most severe sanctions," UEFA said.
