Lumb leads Sixers home
England batsman Michael Lumb struck an unbeaten half-century for the Sydney Sixers, who kept alive their slim hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals of the KFC Big Bash with a five-wicket victory over Brisbane Heat.
Chasing just 128 for victory at the Gabba, Sixers were indebted to Lumb's knock of 61 not out as they surpassed the total with six balls to spare.
Sydney, the defending champions, must now beat Melbourne Renegades in their final fixture and hope other results go their way if they are to progress further.
Brisbane will be ruing an opportunity missed on home turf as a victory would have seen them go into the top four and leave their destiny in their own hands.
However a total of 127-9 batting first meant they were always up against it.
Luke Pomersbach (37 off 34 balls) and Joe Burns (27 off 20) briefly repelled the Sydney attack, for whom Steven O'Keefe (3-21) and Josh Hazlewood (3-32) starred.
Left-handed opener Lumb then led the way expertly in reply, keeping his composure after captain Brad Haddin (16) fell early in the chase.
The 32-year-old struck five boundaries and one huge six off Dan Christian before hitting the winning runs off the final ball of the penultimate over.
