Luongo back with a bang
Roberto Luongo took up his old familiar position in net for the Florida Panthers and made 25 saves as they beat the Buffalo Sabres 2-0.
Luongo, acquired in a trade on Tuesday, played for the Panthers from 2000 to 2006, and marked his return with his fourth shutout of the season.
Dmitry Kulikov and Jesse Winchester got the goals for Florida, who won for only the second time in seven outings.
The New York Rangers beat the Hurricanes 4-2 for their 10th straight win over Carolina, but they needed a Derek Stepan goal on a five-on-three power play to break a tie with 2:45 to go before Carl Hagelin scored into an empty net in the final seconds.
Joe Colborne scored twice in a frantic five minutes - either side of Sean Monahan's goal - as the Calgary Flames came from 3-1 down to beat the New York Islanders 4-3.
Johan Franzen had two goals and two assists to help the Detroit Red Wings to a 7-4 victory over the New Jersey Devils.
The Pittsburgh Penguins trailed twice in regulation but Chris Kunitz's shoot-out goal gave them a 3-2 win over the San Jose Sharks.
