Maarek bids for Sprint repeat
Last year's winner Maarek is one of 18 possible runners in the British Champions Sprint Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.
The proven mud lark switched from trainer David Nagle to Tipperary handler Barry Lalor in the middle of this year and the change of scenery has certainly done him no harm, claiming Group One glory in the Prix de l'Abbaye at Longchamp last time out.
He looks set to get his favoured conditions again in Berkshire this weekend.
Maarek tops what is a strong Irish challenge, with Eddie Lynam responsible for four contenders in Balmont Mast, Slade Power, Sole Power and Viztoria.
Last year's runner-up Hawkeyethenoo is joined by fellow Jim Goldie-trained sprinter Jack Dexter, while other possible runners include Godolphin's Soul, Michael Dods' Mass Rally and the supplemented Challenge Cup winner Heaven's Guest.
