Madrid misery for Djokovic
Novak Djokovic has pulled out of the Madrid Masters due to an ongoing right wrist injury.
The 26-year-old world No 2 suffered the injury during his Monte Carlo Masters semi-final defeat to Roger Federer two weeks ago and revealed afterwards he would not be back in action for "some time".
However, he had hoped to make his return in the Spanish tournament, which gets under way this week.
"I am sorry for the tournament and the Spanish fans that I have to pull out of the Mutua Madrid Open," he told the tournament's official website.
"I have done everything possible to be able to play in Madrid, which is one of the most important events of the year, but, unfortunately, the injury I have in the right wrist has become inflamed again.
"I will now take my time to recover from the injury with the hope of being ready to play in Rome."
You can watch the Madrid Masters live on Sky Sports 3HD. The first day's coverage begins at 12:00 on Monday.
