Maguire airlifted to hospital

Jason Maguire and Ciaran McKee were taken to hospital after suffering nasty falls at Stratford on Monday.

Maguire, who has three rides at the Cheltenham Festival on Tuesday, rode the John Quinn-trained Scots Gaelic in a two-mile handicap hurdle when he was unseated at the second flight and was kicked in the stomach by another horse.

Conditional jockey McKee, riding outsider Descaro for trainer John O'Shea, fell at the third hurdle in the same race.

Maguire was airlifted to University Hospital Coventry, with McKee, who was briefly unconscious, taken to the same hospital by road ambulance.

Quinn is hopeful Maguire's injuries are not too serious.

He said: "He got a nasty kick in the stomach by one of the other horses, but hopefully it's not too bad. I saw Jason in the ambulance and hopefully it's only a precaution. That's all I know."

Stratford clerk of the course Stephen Lambert said: "Both Ciaran McKee and Jason Maguire have gone to University Hospital Coventry.

"Ciaran McKee went by road, Jason Maguire was airlifted there. Jason Maguire has got an injury to his abdomen, whereas Ciaran was unconscious for about three minutes. He (McKee) is fully awake now and is on the road to hospital."
