Maguire on target at Lingfield

Adrian Maguire made a successful raid on Lingfield as a trainer with Mm Dazzler running away with the Ladbrokes Standard Open NH Flat Race.

Runner-up on his debut under Rules at Thurles before finishing only fifth when favourite at Cork, the five-year-old was sent off the 4-6 favourite for what looked a weak contest on paper.

Brendan Powell junior had to shake up the market leader rounding the home turn, but he soon bounded clear and passed the post eight lengths clear of Bugsy's Girl.

Maguire said: "I'm delighted with him and it makes the journey home seem that bit shorter. He had a very good run in Thurles on good ground, finishing second behind a good horse (Western Boy), but he disappointed us then in Mallow (Cork) on soft.

"That's why we travelled over to Lingfield with him really, as he's a good ground horse and I thought he'd like the surface. It's great it all worked out.

"The people in Lingfield have looked after us very well and my good friend Brendan Powell put us up for a couple of nights, so it's been a good trip."

Maguire was also represented on the card by Molly Beag, but she finished last of six runners in the Ladbrokes 'Junior' Standard Open NH Flat Race.

"I wasn't really expecting anything from her, to be honest. It was a last minute decision to bring her and I thought she'd be good company for the other horse and it would be a good experience for her," said the Lombardstown-based trainer.
