Maher finishes on podium
British showjumper Ben Maher continued his rich vein of form with a third-place finish in today's Longines Grand Prix of Ireland.
The Olympic team gold medallist headed to Dublin following a thrilling victory in last weekend's King George V Gold Cup at Hickstead.
Riding Cella, the horse he will take to the European Championships in Denmark later this month, 30-year-old Maher posted the fastest time of a nine horse jump-off, clocking 55.61 seconds.
But one fence down meant he had to settle for third and a prize of just under £26,000.
Irishman Cian O'Connor, individual bronze medallist at London 2012, took the £57,000 winner's purse after going clear on Blue Loyd 12, with Ukraine's Ulrich Kirchkoff second aboard Carlina.
Maher's Olympic and European Championship team-mate Scott Brash had two fences down in round one with Hello Sanctos.
