
Middlesbrough striker Curtis Main is due to undergo knee surgery which is likely to rule the youngster out for up to four months.
The 20-year-old has ruptured lateral ligaments and is expected to be sidelined until 2013.
"Curtis Main faces an operation which is expected to keep him out until the New Year," a club spokesperson said.
"The 20-year-old has ruptured lateral knee ligaments and faces three to four months out of the game.
Former Darlington frontman Main has made 15 senior appearances for the club to date, 13 of them as a substitute.
