Mankins traded to Tampa Bay
The New England Patriots have traded six-time Pro Bowl offensive guard Logan Mankins to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
In return, the Buccaneers have sent tight end Tim Wright and a fourth round draft pick to the Patriots.
The move comes as something as a surprise as Makins has been a fixture in the New England offensive line since his rookie season in 2005 and is viewed as one of the best guards in the NFL.
But 24-year-old Wright gives Bill Belichick's side more options for the future and also provides cover for star tight end Rob Gronkowski, who has a history of injury problems.
The move comes shortly after the Bucs met with offensive guard Richie Incognito, who was at the centre of last season's Miami Dolphins bullying scandal.
Tampa Bay general manager Jason Licht says the acquisition of Mankins does not mean he will end his interest in Incognito, stating that the former Dolphins player is still an "option".
