Manset given Barnsley trial

Barnsley have offered a trial to striker Mathieu Manset and are hopeful that he will soon reach full fitness.

Frenchman Manset left Swiss club FC Sion earlier this month and has now linked up with the Tykes for a week-long spell.

Manager David Flitcroft recognises that it will take some time for the 23-year-old to work up to the required level, but has indicated that he would be keen to complete a deal.

"He's trained with us, but he looked a little bit rusty," Flitcroft said in The Star.

"He's not ready now, which we expected but hopefully it won't take him long to catch up with the intensity."

Manset spent a couple of years with Hereford United before joining Reading in 2011 and later moving on to Sion.
