Mares' mission for Spirit

Trainer Robert Walford will send stable star Carole's Spirit straight to the Cheltenham Festival for the OLBG Mares' Hurdle on March 11.

Trainer Robert Walford will send stable star Carole's Spirit straight to the Cheltenham Festival for the OLBG Mares' Hurdle on March 11.

Having been placed in Listed bumpers at Sandown and Aintree last season, she won her first three starts over hurdles before coming off second best in a tussle with Highland Retreat in a Listed mares' hurdle at Ascot last month.

"I'm delighted with her current well-being and it is my intention to run her in the OLBG mares' race at the Festival," said Walford.

"She won't run again beforehand and I really believe the trip of two and a half miles at the Festival will be absolutely ideal for her.

"I'm not too concerned about the going. She ran well on good ground at Aintree and I think she could make into the first four, but obviously if Quevega is on top form she should win."

Mischievous Milly will have her Festival prep in the OLBG.com Mares' Hurdle at Warwick this weekend.

Trainer Oliver Sherwood said: "Mischievous Milly is going to run at Warwick on Saturday and will then go on to run in the mares' race at Cheltenham.

"She handles soft and heavy ground very well and two and a half miles is her ideal trip."
