Maria on Classic course

Amazing Maria is firmly on course for next weekend's QIPCO 1000 Guineas at Newmarket following a pleasing workout on the Rowley Mile.

The Mastercraftsman filly has not been seen in competitive action since her Group Three triumph in the Prestige Stakes at Goodwood last August, with trainer Ed Dunlop deciding against running her in one of the early-season Classic trials.

Amazing Maria was instead put through her paces by leading French jockey Olivier Peslier on Friday morning and Dunlop has expressed his satisfaction.

Dunlop said: "All went well, it was her first time on the Rowley Mile and Olivier was pleased with her.

"All going well in the meantime, we'll look forward to next weekend with her.

"It's finally raining in Newmarket, for the first time in about three weeks, and that certainly won't do her chances any harm."

Also bound for next weekend's Newmarket meeting is dual Doncaster Cup winner Times Up after he also pleased in a Friday morning spin.

"He's fine and the plan is for him to run in the mile-and-a-half race at Newmarket next Saturday, the Jockey Club Stakes," said the trainer.

"He's a year older and he'll probably need a run. All my horses have been needing a run as we've been avoiding the grass gallops for the last few weeks because they've been quite quick.

"He's in the Yorkshire Cup a couple of weeks down the line and that will come under consideration (after Newmarket)."
