Mariappa looking to Blues date

Adrian Mariappa says Crystal Palace will use the positive aspects of their loss at Newcastle as the Eagles look to bounce back against Chelsea.

A stoppage-time header from Newcastle forward Papiss Cisse was the only difference between the two sides in last weekend's 1-0 defeat, although Palace remain just one place and three points clear of the relegation zone as a result.

But Mariappa, who was relegated from the top flight with Reading last season, believes there is a lot Palace can take from the defeat as they look to spring a surprise against Jose Mourinho's Blues on Saturday.

"Football can be cruel sometimes," he told the Croydon Advertiser.

"We'll look over the game again, look at the goal and what we can improve on but we will move on and take a lot of confidence from it - I thought we played well.

"We have been solid of late and not conceding too many goals. That can only stand us in good stead for going forward.

"Sometimes you don't always get what you deserve in football but we take a lot of positives and we move on to Chelsea. We just need to keep believing."
