Marray run ends in semi-finals

Jonny Marray's hopes of ATP World Tour Finals glory were ended when he and his partner Frederik Nielsen lost their semi-final at the O2 Arena.

The Wimbledon champions suffered a 6-4 6-3 defeat to Spanish duo Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez.

British player Marray and his Danish partner won more points than their opponents but it was Granollers and Lopez who were more clinical in the decisive moments.

Marray and Nielsen fashioned seven break points in the first set but could not take any of them, with Granollers and Lopez needing just one to gain an advantage which they did not relinquish.

The Spaniards made inroads again in the fifth game of the second set but this time Marray and Nielsen did hit back, finally breaking at the ninth attempt.

However, the Anglo-Danish pair dropped serve again next time out to hand the advantage back to the sixth seeds, who made it three break in a row as they completed victory in the ninth game of the set.

Granollers and Lopez will face Indian pair Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna in Monday's final, while Nielsen and Marray may have played their last match together as the Dane is now looking to concentrate on a singles career.
